FHS restores Community Services Hours as a grad requirement; Let's be ready to take advantage of this!

At a recent Franklin School Committee meeting, Josh Hanna, the Principal of FHS, provided an update on the program of studies at the high school. The update is scheduled annually and gives the community a preview on significant course changes, adds, etc. before the students start registering for the next school year.

One key aspect that was announced can benefit the Franklin area nonprofits; the restoration of Community Services Hours as a graduation requirement at FHS. This becomes effective with the graduating class of 2028.

“Beginning with the class of 2028 Franklin High School students are required to complete 20 hours of community service as part of the requirement for graduation”  https://www.franklinps.net/sites/g/files/vyhlif4431/f/uploads/2024-2025_fhs_program_of_studies_.pdf

As you have community service hour opportunities, please let Josh know. Please also give advance notice. He plans to be the central contact for now. He also plans to add a section to the FHS newsletter which goes out every 2 weeks to spread the word. Josh’s email is -> hannaj@franklinps.net

How to use #FranklinCAN(fill in the blank)

Franklin is a caring community. It has been known to come out, to show up, to support when needed. Time, and time again.

Members of the Franklin Area Nonprofit Network (FANN) need to take advantage of this to accomplish what each organization is focused on. The FANN will help in that effort.

#Franklin community action now (CAN) is a simple way for all nonprofits to help each other spread the work on each other's fund raising efforts, events, etc.

  1. When community action is needed, your organization can plan accordingly. Devise whatever is required for fund raising, collection, pick up, etc.
  2. As you communicate to your followers, send the event, or action to the FANN. We'll put it on the calendar
  3. As you create your social media campaign, figure out how to add #FranklinCAN (fillin the blanks) to your social posts. What (fill in the blank) makes sense for this event, action, etc for you/your organization
  4. Mark your social media communications with the hashtag #FranklinCAN(fill in the blank)
  5. FANN members can set up a Google alert for #FranklinCAN to find out what is happening
  6. The FANN and other members can share that hashtag to help spread the word on your effort

So easy!

You do what you need to do and with the #FranklinCAN(fill in the blank) hashtag, the FANN can help spread the word to make your event or effort more successful.

Some examples might be

Now Announcing: The Gathering Makeover Series!

Now Announcing: The Gathering Makeover Series!

You're invited to
The Gathering Makeover

I'm thrilled to announce The Gathering Makeover, a free four-part video series to re-imagine how we spend our collective time as we ease back into our communities.

After 16 months of doing things very differently, many of us are now wondering how to bring people together and show up to gatherings again.

As schools re-open, administrations are asking: Who do we bring back first? How do we take care of our teachers? What's the purpose of a school?

As offices debate bringing staff back in person, they're asking: What is the core of our work? Who needs to be part of what? What and who benefits from in-person connection? How do we hybrid gather well?

As we get invited to parties and picnics and potlucks again, we get to ask ourselves: Who are my people? How open am I to the new? How do I want to spend my time?

We're living through an extraordinary moment and have the rare opportunity to actually pause and makeover how we come together and spend our time.

So, how do we make the most of this moment? Let's navigate this together.

The Gathering Makeover will give you the permission, inspiration, and tools to rethink one crucial gathering that matters to you and your people as we re-emerge—
from parties to classrooms to boardrooms. You'll start to explore what you'd like to be doing rather than what you've always done.

Starting July 28 at 3pm EST, I'll host a live workshop every Wednesday at the same time four weeks in a row. Joined by a special guest, I'll address some of the new gathering pressures we're navigating and creative ways to think about them. Each workshop is part conversation, part coaching, and part Q&A.

Learn More and Reserve Your Spot
RSVP by clicking the button above so we know to expect you! You'll receive a personal log-in to access the livestreams and their recordings. We'll also share additional resources, announcements, and reminders related to The Gathering Makeover.

Hope to see you there,
Priya

Priya Parker: "The way we gather has been changed forever"

Returning from a weekend away, I caught up to listen to a two-part podcast series with Brene Brown and Priya Parker. It is well worth listening to for anyone conducting meetings or working in a community (formal or informal, work related or otherwise).

Priya Parker writes:
"The way we gather has been changed forever. How will we come together moving forward?
This past year, we've had to figure out how to teach and wed and learn and work and graduate and worship and organize and celebrate and mourn without being physically together.

At long last, gathering is coming back. This re-emergence is the ultimate gathering makeover. And we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to experiment, re-imagine, and dream up how we want to gather now.

Let’s gather again as we never have before. Join me in this exploration this summer. "  Visit https://gatheringmakeover.com/
