VANN - Volunteer Action Nonprofit Network - Feb 2

Via the MetroWest Nonprofit Network:

"Join our newest affinity group for Volunteer Leaders who are supporting volunteer efforts in their nonprofit organizations. VANN - Volunteer Action Nonprofit Network - will be a place to share resources, exchange ideas, discuss challenges, and brainstorm solutions. 

Each month will focus on a specific topic with plenty of opportunities for group discussion. Polly Mendoza, former Executive Director of Neighbor Brigade and lifelong volunteer and nonprofit leader will be the group facilitator. 

The VANN group will meet on the first Wednesday of every month.

Franklin is a caring community. It has been known to come out, show up, support when needed. Time, and time again.

#Franklin community action now (CAN)

Members of the Franklin Area Nonprofit Network (FANN) need to take advantage of this to accomplish what each organization is focused on. The FANN will help in that effort.

1. When community action is needed, your organization can plan accordingly. Devise whatever is required for fund raising, collection, pick up, etc.
2. As you communicate to your followers, send the event or action to the FANN. We'll put it on the calendar
3. Mark your social media communications with the hashtag #FranklinCAN(fill in the blanks)
4. The FANN and other members can share the hashtag to help spread the word on your effort

So easy!

You do what you need to do and with the #FranklinCAN(fill in the blanks) hashtag, the FANN can help spread the word to make your event or effort more successful.

While the Franklin Area Nonprofit Network seems to have been quiet, things are busy behind the scenes. The Steering Committee has met and set up this survey to gather info on day/times for future meetings and networking events.

There is also work underway preparing for a 'community action day' sometime in 2022. Stay tuned for info on this as it develops. You'll have time to prepare to participate.

December 2021 Lunch and Learn Wednesdays Dear Friends, And just like that, we find ourselves at the end of 2021. We thank you for your participation throughout this entire year as we learned and shared ideas, challenges and solutions. We are looking forward to another full year of Lunch and Learns, affinity groups, and community collaborations in 2022! (Check out the new affinity group we are launching in on January 5th) December 8- 12:30-1:30 Ask a CPA: Considerations to manage and grow your nonprofit organization Susan McCarthy, CPA, MST, CSEP As 2021 comes to a close many nonprofits are focusing on getting their financial houses in order. This Lunch and Learn led by Susan McCarthy CPA will be an opportunity to learn and ask questions. Susan will address specific areas in Finances and Accounting as well as Fundraising and Operations. For example, in the area of Finances and Accounting Susan will discuss: Accounting Systems and Processes Accounting Policies Internal Controls Accounting Software Financial Reporting Annual Nonprofit returns Annual Budget/Cashflow projections Insurance She will also share a resource list as well as a roadmap for identifying the 10 Key Steps to Close the Gap Between Setting Goals and Achieving Them. Dr. Debbie Clark, Open Spirit We've all been there. You find yourself in a situation where you know you are witnessing harm being done to another person and you want to intervene. But how? What do you say? How do you go from being a passive onlooker to an active bystander? This Lunch and Learn will introduce Training Active Bystanders which has been brought to MetroWest through a collaboration between Open Spirit and Jewish Family Services. Rev. Dr. Debbie Clark and a TAB trainer will give an overview of the training developed by Quabbin Mediation which draws upon research and the wisdom of the gathered participants to identify barriers to active bystandership and develop ways to overcome them. You will leave this Lunch and Learn with a better understanding and tools to move from silence to action in 2022.  REGISTER HERE AFFINITY GROUPS Lone Rangers December 15 - 12:30-1:30 pm Wednesday Designed for Executive Directors or leaders of single-staffed, small-staffed, or volunteer organizations. Share issues, exchange ideas, and discuss challenges and strategies in a supportive, casual yet confidential environment. Join our monthly Lone Rangers meeting facilitated by Sarah Baldiga, Executive Director of the Rise Above Foundation, and Helen Lemoine, Executive Director of Leadership Metrowest. NEW AFFINITY GROUP COMING IN JANUARY! Volunteer Leaders January 5th - 12:30-1:30 pm Wednesday It's here! We are thrilled to announce that MWNN will be launching a new affinity group for Volunteer Program leaders who are building, implementing, or managing volunteer programs. Like our Lone Rangers group, this will be a place to share issues, exchange ideas, discuss challenges and strategies and support each other in the important work of aligning the work of volunteers with the mission of your organization. We're so pleased that Polly Mendoza, former Executive Director of Neighbor Brigade and lifelong volunteer and nonprofit leader has graciously agreed to facilitate this group. Her passions and skills intersect in the areas of integrating equitable practices, managing, and leveraging volunteer corps, and innovative strategic planning. Polly worked with the Massachusetts Service Alliance and the MetroWest Nonprofit Network to complete the Service Enterprise training and successfully acquired certification for Neighbor Brigade. The group will meet on the first Wednesday of every month from 12:30-1:30. Join us on January 5, 2022, (and help us name the group!)
